My ADHD child,By; TRACY NICOLAUS
He's bouncin' off the wall, a superball gone insane,
he runs through your world like an off-rail freight
train.
Interruptions are constant, tantrums galore,
when it's time to do homework,
he's gone - out the door.
The drama is constant, oh his foot fell asleep,
he moans and he wails, the theatrics run deep.
School is a nightmare, the teachers are lost,
if they only could see, he is worth the cost.
He is brighter than most, as most these kids are,
and with patience and love,
I know he'll go far.
But the crap I must take from "well meaning friends"
"Don't let him do that!" "Oh, these rules that he bends!"
"You're not a good parent" "Your child's really rude"
"His temper's outrageous" "He has hands in his food".
He hears this and wonders, just what's wrong with me?
I tell him, "You're special, you have A.D.H.D.".
"Now A.D.H.D. is a gift from above,
it teaches us grown-ups how to strengthen our love.
It helps teach your teachers, no two kids are the same.
You have awesome energy that could bring you great fame.
You don't need much sleep, you never wear down,
You're silly and funny, when you act like a clown.
You've felt lots of pain from what people have said,
but you pray for those people when you go to bed.
So just try every day to make a fresh start,
for God gifted you with an extra big heart."
As I look at my child, he sees through my soul.
My heart feels like bursting, as I realize my goal.
I know this young boy like no one else could,
He's a blessing to me, he's strong, and he's good.
So I'll love him and guide him through the worst of the worst,
And he'll make a great man (if I don't kill him first).
I'm kidding, of course, 'cause I know what's to be,
When I look in his eyes, It's a reflection of me.

7 Myths About ADHD/ADD Exposed!
With so much being said and written about ADHD/ADD, it can sometimes help to know what the truth about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is.
Here are the seven myths about ADHD that you should know!
Myth 1: - ADHD isn’t a real medical disorder
The medical board including psychological, educational organizations which includes the National Institute of health, the U.S Department of Education have all recognised ADHD as a medical disorder. Research now shows that ADHD is a result of a chemical imbalance or neurotransmitters within the brain. This creates symptoms of impulsiveness, inattention disorder and sometimes even hyperactivity affecting every aspect of daily life, including time management and organizational skills.
Myth 2: - ADHD gives children an unfair advantage
Although this is true to some degree, the Disabilities Education (IDEA) does require all public schools to address the special needs of children having disabilities, including ADHD. This may mean extra test time, and more time playing so that they are able to be just as successful as their non ADHD classmates.
Myth 3:- ADHD will eventually be outgrown
Those that are suffering from ADHD as children will find that they continue to show symptoms into adolescence and even adulthood. Around 6% of the adult population has some form of ADHD that remains undiagnosed and only one in four will seek treatment. Those that remain undiagnosed are more likely to suffer from depression stress, anxiety and even substance abuse. They find it difficult in maintaining some form of a career; have trouble both financially and in personal relationships.
Myth 4:- ADHD only affects boys.
Although more boys are affected with ADHD/ADD, girls are just as likely to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Gender does not seem to make any difference when it comes to this disorder.
Myth 5:- Bad parenting creates ADHD
Children that are misbehaving are not always due to them not being taught correctly. These symptoms are usually stemmed because the child has been unable to control his impulses. As the problem originates from brain chemistry and not from discipline. Strict parenting where the child is unduly punished for things he can’t control, can eventually lead to his symptoms becoming worse.
Myth 6:- Children taking ADHD medication will abuse drugs when they become adolescents
Children that are taking appropriate medication for treating their ADHD symptoms are less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol compared to those that are not as their symptoms will be greatly reduced.
Myth 7:- People who suffer from ADHD are stupid and lazy and will never achieve anything.
A recent study carried out showed that those suffering from ADHD had above average intelligence. They are certainly not lazy and many well known, high achieving individuals from the past who had ADHD did very well. These include Mozart, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, George Bernard Shaw and even Salvador Dali.
Even in today’s business there is a list of high achieving ADHD sufferers, such as David Neeleman, founder of JetBlue Airways and Paul Orfalea, founder of Kinko’s
