Today, there are more alternative options available for treating ADHD and one of them is through herbal supplemention.  Some herbal treatments that have been studied have proven to be very effective and successful in treating children and adults with ADHD.

Ginkgo biloba is the most commonly prescribed product recommended to enhance brain function, especially in ADHD children and adults to increase concentration and focus.

It's an effective treatment for relieving symptoms of aging, including memory loss and also helps to increase focus and concentration.

Herbal remedies have been very effective in helping to detoxify the system as well as to enhance the immune system.  Another function of herbal treatments is that they are able to improve circulation to the brain and to ensure a good supply of nutrients and removal of toxic compounds. 

A list of great detoxifying herbs include;

Psyllium husk powder (aids elimination), garlic, milk thistle, parsley, red clover, stinging nettle, alfalfa, sage, dried hawthorn(fruit and flowers), burdock root, birch leaves, verbena and cat's claw tea (this enhances the immune system, reduces inflammation and regulates digestion)


Siberian Ginseng
has been recommended as a tonic for children at doses of 100 to 200 milligrams of concentrated root extract per day.

This product should be used for four to six weeks followed by two weeks without treatment before resuming the medication.

Other herbals products that have been studied and used successfully in ADHD/ADD children and adults include:-

Catnip, thyme, chamomile, lemon balm, licorice root, hops, lobelia, passionflower, skullcap, rosemary, wood betony, mullein, St John's wort, beet root, lemon grass, hibiscus and peppermint. Some of these have sedative qualities that help reduce the hyperactive components of ADHD.
